Weight - Titanium has a high strength to weight ratio which can justify the extra cost of the material and specialist fabrication cost.

Strength - On a strength to weight basis, pure titanium with a density of 4.51g/cm3 is superior to most other structural metals. In alloy form it possesses approximately twice the strength of Stainless Steel 316 and 3 - 5 times the strength of aluminum.  For equal strength weight savings of 45% can be achieved by replacing Stainless Steel with Titanium Alloy.

Corrosion Resistance - Titanium rapidly acquires a tenacious oxide film when exposed to air.  The invisible film, consists of titanium dioxide which acts as a effective barrier again corrosion of the underlying metals. The film is self-healing and reforms almost instantaneously if mechanically damaged.
